The vision

This is the walkway every parent and student passes through each morning — right now it's bare concrete and good bones. With some string lights overhead, a few warm sconces, fresh signage, plants, and a proper "Welcome" mat, it becomes the heart of drop-off: a place that says you're glad they're here before anyone walks through a door. It's one of the highest-visibility projects on campus and one of the most rewarding to see finished.

What you'd be doing

Hang café-style string lights along the breezeway, mount two welcome signs and a hanging drop-off sign, set out planters and ferns, plant and mulch the side flower bed, add solar path lights, and style the seating area with cushions and an accent piece. Most of it is beginner-friendly weekend work — the only specialized piece is the lighting hookup, a great fit if your family includes (or knows) an electrician.

Site notes

Electrical is the key unknown — confirm where power is available for string lights and sconces. If sconces need hardwiring, that's an electrician's job (permit may apply); otherwise spec plug-in fixtures. The metal canopy, posts, concrete, brick, handrails, and existing iron benches all stay. Measure full beam length before ordering string-light footage. Confirm walls are brick vs. CMU block so the right masonry anchors get bought. Verify GFCI outlet availability.

Ideal sponsor

One family or a small group — ideal for a family that's handy and design-minded, or a local business sponsor (landscaping company, electrician, garden center) who could donate labor or materials. The lighting is where an electrician parent or business adds real value.
